Blackjack Creek Dam: Then and Now

It turns out that where we stayed, at the Gold Rush Cabin in the Hocking Hills was an old, broken dam.  I just researched it and found that it was a dam on the Blackjack Creek.

This is a picture of the Blackjack Creek Dam from 1929.

Here is a picture of it (at a slightly different angle) in 2010.  It is broken now and not holding back any water.

Carved in the wall of the dam are the words, "Black Jack Club 1919-30."  I'd love to learn more about this.

Todd is standing near the broken part of the dam.

This area would be underwater if the dam was still functional today.  You can see the wall of the dam on the very left of this photo behind the tree.

This is a picture of the property of the cabin with early morning sunlight.  I thought it was very pretty.  It was far too cold to do much outside, but we did walk around and get lots of pictures.

Project 365. January 30

We went on a weekend getaway in the Hocking Hills.  We stayed in this cabin, the Gold Rush Cabin.  You can click here to see more pictures of it.  I also posted lots of pictures on Facebook.

We've been researching the purchase of a new car for some time now. We needed to replace our 1999 Caravan.  This morning the van wouldn't start so we decided it was the perfect time. Plus, Herrnstein Hyundai had some great rebates on the Santa Fe GLS.

This one happened to be in the showroom where it was warm. That's the way to car shop when it's 11 degrees out.  This is the one we drove home in.

I won this personalized Christmas ornament from a blog giveaway over on the Patiently Waiting blog.  It's from FlossyLulu's Etsy Shop.   They have great customer service and fast shipping.

I decided not to put it away with the Christmas Ornaments, I'm keeping it up all year.

Project 365. January 23

Christmas is packed away.  The weather was finally mild enough for Todd to take down the outside Christmas decorations and pack them away.  He was also nice enough to take this photo for my Project 365 photo of the day.  I will miss the pretty lights at night, though.

Bosco has sexy legs, too. Marty isn't the only dog around here that is sporting sexy shaved legs. Bosco had her second chemo treatment today so she has a pair shaved legs.

These geese were having a meeting this afternoon where I work. I think they were discussing the warmer temperatures and the melting snow.

Project 365. 1/14/10

Marty and Bosco got mail today! A sweet friend, Denise sent this great package to Marty and Bosco (my doggies).

Bosco is so very excited as she loves new toys. She is hogging both toys and will let Marty have one tomorrow. This is her ritual.

They both will love the Carvers!

Thank you Denise!

Today at work, I had to go to The James Cancer Center at OSU.  It's on the 11th floor. I walked past this window and decided to make this my photo of the day.

Project 365. Day 10: Snowflakes On Ice.

Todd noticed these snowflakes on ice on our front steps railing.  I quickly dusted off my SLR and grabbed some close-up filters (+7 total) and shot away.  I took many photos, but this one is probably my favorite.  I love the detail of the solitary snowflake on the greenish ice.  You can click on the photo to make it larger.

Sorry iPhone, today I had to get out the big guns.

Project 365. Day 9

Our Christmas lights are frozen. There is no way we can take them down so we might as well enjoy them. They are very pretty when they light up the icicles.

Project 365. Day 7

This is my home away from home for the night.  It snowed like crazy all day today, so I'm staying at Marriott Residence Inn that is near work.  I have a 50 mile commute and wasn't about to drive it.

I got a great rate, and you can see that I'm really roughing it.  It even has a full kitchen.
I enjoyed the Manager's Social with salad and chili.  Oh  yeah, and they have Bud Lite on tap for 50 cents a glass.  I got two.  One is in the freezer getting frosty for later.  Then tomorrow morning I'll have a hot buffet breakfast.  Then I have to go to work.

I miss Todd and the doggies, but I guess I might as well make the best of it.  It's better than being in the car for a long commute home.  I probably would still be in the car.

Project 365. Day 6

A letter holder from India!  One of Todd's coworkers recently went to India to visit her family and she brought this back for him.  It's made of velvet and has three pockets for holding letters or mail.  I really like it.

A great deal!

I found these rubber stamps at Ollie's Bargain Outlet today. They were only 99 cents each.
They are Rubber Stampede by Delta. The largest one is 4.75 inches tall.

I couldn't resist a good deal like this!

Project 365: Day 2

Here is my Project 365 Day 2 photo:
We took Bosco to the vet today, and on our way home, we stopped at McDonald's.  Bosco looked like she was feeling better and was being very cute, so I couldn't resist taking this picture of her.  Some of you may know that Bosco has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma.  The bald spot on her right shoulder is from having a lymph node removed for biopsy.  She had her first chemo treatment last Tuesday.  She's had a rough couple of weeks.
Today she seems pretty happy and I'll take that!

Project 365: A photo a day for a year

I'm going to try to take a photo a day for a year.  I hope I can keep up with it.

Day 1:

This is Brutus Buckeye. He is hoping that the Buckeyes win against the Ducks in the Rose Bowl today.
