Blackjack Creek Dam: Then and Now

It turns out that where we stayed, at the Gold Rush Cabin in the Hocking Hills was an old, broken dam.  I just researched it and found that it was a dam on the Blackjack Creek.

This is a picture of the Blackjack Creek Dam from 1929.

Here is a picture of it (at a slightly different angle) in 2010.  It is broken now and not holding back any water.

Carved in the wall of the dam are the words, "Black Jack Club 1919-30."  I'd love to learn more about this.

Todd is standing near the broken part of the dam.

This area would be underwater if the dam was still functional today.  You can see the wall of the dam on the very left of this photo behind the tree.

This is a picture of the property of the cabin with early morning sunlight.  I thought it was very pretty.  It was far too cold to do much outside, but we did walk around and get lots of pictures.

We went on a weekend getaway in the Hocking Hills.  We stayed in this cabin, the Gold Rush Cabin.  You can click here to see more pictures of it.  I also posted lots of pictures on Facebook.

We've been researching the purchase of a new car for some time now. We needed to replace our 1999 Caravan.  This morning the van wouldn't start so we decided it was the perfect time. Plus, Herrnstein Hyundai had some great rebates on the Santa Fe GLS.

This one happened to be in the showroom where it was warm. That's the way to car shop when it's 11 degrees out.  This is the one we drove home in.

Riadin, my Paladin flying in my helicopter in World of Warcraft.  Sometimes the engine sputters and stalls, but it's a pretty safe ride most of the time.

Project 365. January 25

I won this personalized Christmas ornament from a blog giveaway over on the Patiently Waiting blog.  It's from FlossyLulu's Etsy Shop.   They have great customer service and fast shipping.

I decided not to put it away with the Christmas Ornaments, I'm keeping it up all year.

Project 365. January 23

Christmas is packed away.  The weather was finally mild enough for Todd to take down the outside Christmas decorations and pack them away.  He was also nice enough to take this photo for my Project 365 photo of the day.  I will miss the pretty lights at night, though.
